Child Health Peer Specialist – Military Veterans

REPORTS TO: Program Director


This part-time, approximately 10 hours per week, position serves the families of military veterans. The Child Health Peer Specialist is a member of the Healthcare Without Walls-Veterans services team who fosters trust and understanding, provides reliable information and conducts outreach to the families of military veterans, particularly those who have experienced homelessness. 


  • Conducts outreach activities to identify potential program participants

  • Establishes rapport with program participants

  • Effectively communicates information in a manner that is easy for the participant to understand

  • Provide child health and mental health literacy training to parents 1:1 and in groups

  • Completes case notes on individuals

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings

  • Other duties as assigned by the program director



  • Certification as a peer specialist in Georgia, with at least six months of CPS experience working with veterans.

  • Must be willing and able to self-identify as a military veteran

  • Be willing to share personal experience in a strategic, compassionate and responsive manner and comfortably self-disclose

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Organized

  • Experience with documenting contacts and actions

  • Good judgement and maintaining boundaries

  • Ability to empathize with clients

  • Flexible hours required, including some evening and weekend work



Must have military service experience. At least six months of work experience as a certified peer specialist. Previous experience facilitating groups and writing progress notes.
