Parenting the Second Time Around Workshop

 

Join Project GRANDD as we work together using an award-winning curriculum created by Cornell University for relative caregivers raising children. Topics include: child development, discipline,
caring for oneself as a caregiver, rebuilding a family, living with teens, legal issues and advocacy. PASTA is a FREE 8-week enrichment program. 

Modules: 

  • Workshop 1: It Wasn't Supposed To Be Like This -(identifying and reflecting ambivalent feelings about changing roles, identifying helpful community resources)

  • Workshop 2: Getting to Know You - (child development, individual differences, journals)

  • Workshop 3: Rebuilding a Family - (adult/child interactions, grief, and loss, relating to your adult child, solution-focused problem solving)

  • Workshop 4:  Discipline is Not a Dirty Word, But It May Look Different Today-  (characteristics of effective discipline, establishing a discipline style,  addressing high-risk behaviors)

  • Workship 5: Legal Concerns of Relatives of Raising Children - (legal issues including custody, visitation, child support)

  • Workshop 6: Standing up for Grandparents/Grandchildrens Right - (advocacy, negotiating systems, connecting with community programs)

  • Workshop 7: Grandparents and Teens Living Together- (key points in adolescent development and realistic expectations for behavior)

  •  Workshop 8: Grandparents and Teens Living Together- (indicators of high-risk behavior and strategies and resources to  help)
