Current Volunteer Opportunities:
VIRTUAL Children or Teen Support Group Facilitator
Do you enjoy working with children ages 5-12 and want to further you skills in group work? This opportunity provides a chance to work under a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who will provide supervision. It is a chance to give back to some of the most vulnerable children and their families in Atlanta. Project GRANDD families are grandparents raising their grandchildren with special needs. The biological parents are unable to care for the children due to a variety of reasons including death, illness, substance addiction, incarceration, etc.
Job Description
The Support Group Facilitator is responsible for facilitating a monthly support group for elementary-aged children OR teenagers who are being raised by their grandparents. The Group Facilitator is responsible for the development and maintenance of the group and ensures that the group meets and maintains the partnerships standards of quality. Time commitment is 2 hours per month. Group will be held virtually using Google Meets. Supervision is provided by the Program Director who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
The Children's Group Facilitator will:
a) provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for children
b) provide opportunities for children to enhance their self-esteem and practice social skills
c) model effective non-violent problem solving and conflict resolution techniques
d) support children and their grandparents to establish trust and positive interactions with each other
e) support children as they work through difficult emotions such as grief, anger, and loss
Desired Skills and Experience
This position requires the following skills: Group Facilitation, Cross-cultural Communication, People Skills, Relationship Building, Child Welfare, Child Care. Experience working with children required. Master’s degree in counseling or social work preferred.
